What this project is about.
SchemeSetu AI is an AI-powered web application that helps people discover Indian government welfare schemes they may be eligible for. Many people miss out on government benefits because scheme information is scattered across different websites, eligibility rules can be confusing, and applicants may not know which documents they need. SchemeSetu aims to make this information easier to find and understand.
Users can ask questions in their own words or provide details such as age, income, location, and family circumstances. The application checks these details against predefined eligibility rules and identifies schemes that may be suitable for the user. It also explains why a person may or may not qualify, highlights missing information, and provides relevant scheme details, document requirements, and links to supporting official sources.
The project combines Artificial Intelligence (AI), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and a rule-based eligibility engine. RAG allows the application to retrieve relevant information from stored government scheme documents before generating an answer. A hybrid search system combines keyword matching with semantic search to find useful information, while an evidence-checking mechanism compares generated answers with official source passages to help reduce incorrect or unsupported responses.
SchemeSetu supports English, Hindi, Marathi, and Telugu, making government scheme information accessible to users across different language backgrounds.
This project is suitable for final-year engineering students who want practical experience building an AI-powered web application. It demonstrates how Python backend development, React frontend development, database management, AI integration, information retrieval, and rule-based decision-making can work together to solve a real-world problem.
